IN Division One at Gracehill Golf Club Jimmy McClenaghan playing off 10 won by a neck on the Saturday with 39pts.
Jimmy displayed solid characteristics throughout his round, the highlights of which were birdies at the 3rd and 15th.
Eoin Sayers, playing off 14, had to settle for 2nd after being beaten on countback. His round was bookended by a poor start and finish otherwise victory could have been his.
Johnny Munnis (9) produced another steady performance to collect 3rd.
In division 2 Gordon Willis playing off 20 romped home in 1st place with 37pts. After making the turn 1 under his card Gordon produced a sure-footed performance on the back 9 to accumulate a further 18pts.
William McQuiston (18) was 2nd with 36pts. Willy also made the turn 1 under his card but a stumble over the closing holes meant he has to wait another week for that triumph.
Glenn Robinson (23) was 3rd with 35pts. Robert McNeill was in fine form winning the gross prize with an excellent 1 under gross.
* In the Sunday Sweep Mickey Connor, playing off 25, was once again in the winner’s enclosure taking 1st prize with 37pts.
After an indifferent start which left him 3 over his card at the turn, Mickey then managed to keep both hands on the reins to whip himself into shape to come home with 22pts. Obviously the new grips he had fitted by local pro Ian Blair have proved to be a shrewd investment.
Steven Bell playing off 4 was 2nd with 36pts. Steven was a model of consistence throughout his round, certainly a trademark of his golfing proficiency. Gerald ’Chiefy’ Smyth (11) was 3rd with 33pts. Robert McNeill once again collected the gross with a 79.
