A ROUND up of all the golfing action from north Antrim and beyond.
* Ballycastle - The PGA Tankard was played for in probably the best conditions of the year so far at Ballycastle on Saturday and the good weather was reflected in the scoring. Colin Campbell, playing off a handicap of twelve, recorded an excellent 43 points which gave him the overall 1st place and sent him through to the regional final in September. Colin’s front nine of twenty points got even better after the turn being just one over par on the back nine including a double bogey at the 14th and a birdie at the 15th.
* Gracehill - Sunday Sweep - Stephen Hastings playing off 13 was all conquering on Sunday with 41pts. With some indifferent scoring throughout the opening 10 holes Stephen then got his eye in for the remaining 8 holes playing then in level par, the highlight of which was a birdie 2 at the 211 yard 14th hole. Herbie McCook playing off 10 was 2nd with 39pts. Herbie a recent convert to the Ping G25 irons showed particular fine form with a brace of birdies and an accumulation of 9 pars throughout his round. Aaron Bell playing off 7 was 3rd with 38pts. Robert McNeill won the gross with a 77.
* Brown Trout - Members of the Brown Trout were glad to get back into competitive golf after the closure of the course over the past two weekends. The Thompson Cup was awarded to the very worthy winner Sam Reid (12) with an excellent score of 44 points. Sam accumulated 25 points over the first nine thanks mainly to a hat trick of birdies at holes 7 8 & 9.
* Kilrea Manor - The weekend competition of the 4/5 May was won by Brian Doherty with a points total of 40. Martin McCann also scored 40, but lost out on the count back. One two only was posted and that was by Eddie O’Kane. Brian Doherty followed this win by winning the following weekend competition on 11/12 May with a score of 38 points. and the runner up was Chris Darragh with 37. Again, only one two was posted and that was by Martin McCann.
