BALLYMONEY 2 ARMAGH O
On a frosty Saturday 11th January Ballymoney first XI played Armagh at home.
This was a crucial league match as both teams are currently low in the league and needed to come away with the 3 points.
Ballymoney started strongly from the outset knowing that they wanted the win. Their great play resulted in Jessica Moore breaking through the Armagh defence passing the ball to Cara Ferguson who slotted the ball back across the goals to Lynn MacAuley narrowly missing goal.
At the other end of the pitch Armagh won a short corner, their shot on goal was defended well and cleared by Susie Sneddon.
Armagh continued to put the pressure but did not break the Ballymoney defence with ‘keeper Sammy Jo making some great saves.
Ballymoney’s play picked up towards the end of the first half resulting in 4 attempts on goal with no avail. The first half finished nil each with all to play for.
The Ballymoney girls came out fighting and Susie Sneddon sent a long ball into the circle, Jessica Lynch got her stick on the end of it and deflected it just wide.
The girls continued to work the Armagh defence and their hard graft paid off when Katherine Minihan slotted the ball in from close range scoring the first goal of the game.
The play was end to end and Ballymoney worked hard not to let Armagh back into the game.
The remainder of the second half resulted in Ballymoney having numerous attacking opportunities, and their hard play resulted in Jessica Lynch flicking the ball into the back of the next to score the 2nd and final goal of the match.
Great result for the ‘Toon girls.
Special thanks to our Mark, Angie & Liz from the sideline and the supporters who braved the chilly conditions.
