Ballymoney Sports Development Unit and Springwell Running Club are delighted to again announce NFU Mutual as their sponsor for this year’s annual road race and fun run which will take place at the Joey Dunlop Leisure Centre on Friday 27 July.

Both parties our indebted to NFU Mutual for being on board with financial assistance and they both would like to thank NFU Mutual for supporting this prestigious event.

The 5-mile road race will begin at 7pm with a whopping 12 individual categories incorporated into the main race this year.

“This year promises to be the best event yet with categories for everyone and prizes the whole way down the field, so there is no excuse not to turn up and give it a go,” said Community Sports Development Officer John Fall.

The full list of categories are as follows: open male and female, veterans section for males at over 40, over 50 and over 60, veterans sections for females for over 35, over 40 and over 50, junior race for male and female, wheelchair race for male and females.

The race has attracted great numbers in past years with 180 finishers in 2011 and this year should be no different with enquiries already received from all over the province.

Prior to the main event, the children’s fun run will take place at 6.15pm again at the Joey Dunlop Leisure Centre. The race will take place in the grounds of the centre and is open to anyone aged 8-14.

Please note that entry costs £3 per child and NO entries will be accepted without a Parental/Guardian consent form being completed.

“This is the 6th year of the children’s event and I would encourage all children from the Borough to come along and take part. Every child will receive a medal for competing,” added John Fall.

“Parents must remember that consent forms are compulsory and must be signed on the night or prior. No form, no run, with no exceptions at all.”

“Preparation for the main races is going really smoothly this year and I am delighted to continue our excellent partnership with Ballymoney Borough Council’s Sports Development Unit. Their input is invaluable to ensure the event is a success. Hopefully we will top the 200 mark in entries this year and who knows maybe see the course record fall in one of the events. A special prize is on offer for anyone beating any of the current course record,” said Ali Bratten of Springwell Running Club
