Fran continues winning streak

Springwell’s Fran McFadden, continues her winning streak with an age group win at Blaney Rockets 10 Mile Road Race on Saturday. Fran completed the 10 mile scenic loop round Lough Muckno, Castleblayney in 1:09:02.

On Saturday, Jim Breen picked up his second age group category prize of the week at the O’Brien Challenge 26 Kilomarathon. Jim completed the 26K undulating course through Darvagh Forest in 2:05:05.

Springwell’s Neil Johnston ran 4:11.39 (10th place) in the men’s mile race at the Morton Games International Track & Field Meeting in Santry, Dublin on Friday evening.

Springwell Runners travelled to Derry on Tuesday for Reach Running Club’s Unity in the Community 5K. City of Derry athletes dominated the major prizes with Cathal Logue leading the field home in 16:54 and Hannah Shield first lady in 19:06.

First home for Springwell was Warren McIlmoyle in 19:32 (PB) closely followed by Fran McFadden in 19:36 (PB and 2nd Female), Conor McStravick 20:36, Paul Irwin 21:17 (PB) and David Boorman 23:18.

On Tuesday Springwell’s Jim Breen, won his age category at the Portaferry 10 mile Road Race. Jim was first M60 in a time of 1:06:56.

On Thursday evening, three Springwell juniors travelled to the Mary Peters Track, Belfast for Lagan Valley’s Firmus Energy track meet. Hermione Skuce led from start to finish in the U15 girls 1500m cruising home in 5.17.8. In the U17 girls 1500m girls Aine McKinney ran a great race, finishing with a blistering last 100m to win in a superb PB time of 5.01.12. John Gordon (19) had a fantastic 5th place finish in the men’s open 1500m’s in a time of 4.15.9.

A heavy rain shower cleared in time for the start of Saturday’s Portrush parkrun, leaving conditions warm and dry. Christopher Drummond was congratulated on becoming the 4th Portrush runner to complete 100 parkruns. There were 213 runners, 34 first timers, 52 PB’s and 16 athletics clubs represented.

Among them were Springwell’s Calum Knox 9:43 (PB) and Molly Blee 9:58 (PB).
