Harry's a true inspiration

The stars of the future were given some real inspiration on Saturday as they came face-to-face with some reall football history.

Children at the Harry Gregg Foundation’s Small Sided Games Centre at the Ulster University were visited by the geat man himself.

Harry always likes to get along to support the kids whenever he can.

But on Saturday in the build up to the FA Cup final between Manchester United and Crystal Palace later that day, Harry shared some of his memories accompanied by some very treasured possessions.

The young footballers, who include Harry’s grandchildren, were thrilled to see the former Manchester United and Northern Ireland legend.

Amongst the treasures Harry had to share with the youngsters were his 1958 and 1963 FA Cup runners up and winners medals.

Also on display he had the unique Pheonix shirt that he wore in the 1958 FA Cup Final.

The Phoenix crest shows the bird rising from the ashes, symbolising United’s rebirth after Munich.

United took on Bolton Wnderers in the showpiece final that year in front of a crowd of almost 100,000 at Wembley Stadium.

Unfortunately for Harry Bolton won 2–0, with a double by Nat Lofthouse, who scored the goals in the 3rd and 55th minutes.

Also Sir Bobby Charltons number 10 shirt that he wore in 1967-68 European Cup semi final against Real Madrid on their way to a famous final victory over Benfica at Wembley.

And, Harry, of course, also brought along his International Cap for his World Cup appearances in 1958 for Northern Ireland, the same year that he has voted best goalkeeper of the tournament.

The kids were delighted to listen to Harry’s memories from his playing career as well as see some of his cherished memorabilia from throughout his career.

There was more celebrating for Harry later on Saturday as United came from a goal down to win the FA Cup 2-1 against Palace.
