Millburn Dynamos defeated St Brigid’s, Ballymoney, 2-1 in a keenly contested Harry Gregg Foundation 7 a side tournament final at Coleraine Showgrounds on Tuesday.
Millburn and St Brigid’s topped their respected groups following five round robin games in the 12-team tournament for larger schools in the Coleraine area.
The other schools taking part were DH Christie, St Malachy’s, Irish Society, Damhead, Carnalridge, Harpur’s Hill, Mill Strand, Ballymoney Model, Millburn PS (Aztecs) and St John’s.
The Dynamo’s took the lead in the final but St Brigid’s hit back to equalise before Millburn got their winner in the second half.
The player of the tournament was awarded to Ben Moore of St Brigid’s.
On Wednesday ten primary schools took part in the Smaller Schools tournament.
Played over a league format with Drumrane PS from Dungiven emerged victorious and retained the trophy.
The other schools competing were Bush Valley, Garryduff, Bushmills, William Pinkerton, Garvagh, Kilmoyle, Gorran and Straidbilly.
David Walker, from William Pinkerton Memorial Primary School was named Player of the Tournament.
126 girls from 14 schools located in Ballycastle, Portrush, Ballymoney, Coleraine, Limavady and surrounding areas, competed for the inaugural Harry Gregg Foundation Girls’ Cup on Monday.
St Brigid’s PS, Ballymoney defeated Mill Strand PS in the final and were presented with their trophy by Gail Macklin, IFA Women’s Domestic Manager.
The Player of the Tournament was Rachel Madden, DH Christie.
Congratulations to Roger Dallas and his team of referees on three days of excellent football.
It was a fantastic spectacle of football over the three days at Coleraine Showgrounds.
It was thoroughly enjoyed by all the children who came along to take part, and also the spectators who came along to support their teams over the three days.
Organisers would like to thank all the schools who took part in the various competitions and for the way they played the games.
There was a great competitive but sporting atmosphere in all the games and the kids who played enjoyed the competition.
Well done to all the players, teams and coaches for playing their part in what was a fantastic event for youth football in the area.
