BALLYMONEY United are through to the next round of the Coca-Cola Intermediate Cup with a 3-1 win at home to Sirocco Works and they now travel to Annagh United.
Both teams made a cautious start at the Riada Stadium with Ballymoney claiming most of the early possession, but suffered a setback on 8 mins when Walsh cracked a free kick from 18yards round the wall and past Moore into the corner of the home goal to put Sirocco 1 nil up.
Undeterred, Ballymoney continued to dominate playing attractive possession football and were rewarded on 13 mins when a great move down the right saw McKinley cross for Gillan to equalize with a glancing header at the back post past Reid in the Sirocco visitors goal.
Ballymoney piled on the pressure and came close on 24 mins when McKinley looped a great shot just over Reid and just over the bar. Sirocco were dangerous on the counter attack and on the half hour another great Walsh free kick was headed just wide at he back post by Stewart.
From the kick off Ballymoney quickly attacked down the right completing a good combination of passes with Higgins crossing into the middle where McKinley was hauled down by Flame, Larkin made no mistake from the penalty spot to give the home team the lead.
Ballymoney came out in the second half in a positive manner and asserted their authority from the start pinning Sirocco back in their own half. Ballymoney increased their lead on 55 mins when after a succession of goalmouth clearances in a goalmouth scramble Gillan blasted his shot goalward and it went in off Fletcher on the goal line. The home team continued topress and Gillan again came close on 65 mins shooting just wide. At this stage of the game the home team were pulling Sirocco all over the pitch and saw Larkin in on 70 mins, but was crowded out as he delayed and shot just wide.
