Dalriada School have added one of the fastest growing sports in the country to their football catalogue by introducing the popular “FUTSAL”game to afternoon games periods.

A coaching Master Class was delivered last week by Irish FA Futsal manager, Jonathan Michael to a large number of players from all age groups on the school 3G pitch.

Futsal is an exciting, fast-paced small sided football game that is widely played across the world and is officially recognised by both UEFA and FIFA.

Futsal is a 5 a side game, played with a low bounce size four ball, in a small area (42m x 25mmaximum and 25m x 15m minimum). Ball out of play must be restarted inside four seconds- a guarantee of high intensity games!!

Lionel Messi, Xavi and Christiano Ronaldo are the most prominent high profile Futsal players, with our very own Michael O’Neill, Northern Ireland manager, having fully endorsed the game at a recent event in Belfast.

Paul Gaston, Coleraine Youth team manager, and also Dalriada football coach, said “This game is a wonderful way of improving the player’s first touch and awareness in tight situations, with the ball always being played on the ground”

Mr Tom Skelton school principal, commented “We are delighted to introduce Futsal to our footballers and indeed we are very keen to embrace any further activities, such as afterschool sessions, coach education and excellence opportunities for any players in the area”
