Blaze Seconds get league off to a winning start away from home

A new look Blaze Seconds squad made the long journey to Craigavon hoping to get the season off to a good start. Coach Johnny McClenaghan had only six players at his disposal including himself, making the selection rather easy.

The first set was extremely tight. Fortunately for Blaze, some excellent hitting by Richard McKelvey and Matt Scott saw the team through, as Blaze claimed a 25-22 win.

The second set saw some strong serving from McClenaghan push Blaze into an early 8-0 lead. This never looked under threat as Blaze ran out 25-19 winners despite some spirited play by the home team. The Third was not so cut and dry, with Blaze knowing victory in this set would secure a 3-0 victory. The set was nip and tuck with neither able to pull away. Despite this however a number of mistakes from the Ballymoney Team near the end of the set, gifted Warriors a 25-23 victory.

The fourth set went much the same way with Joshua Park dominating the net for Ballymoney and the team scrapping for every ball. Things were close right to the end and at 23-23 Blaze claimed the final two points to secure a 3-1 victory which sent them to the top of the table after game week 1.
