Ballymoney racers in fine form at Speed Fest

Oval racers from across the province demonstrated their skills during two days of keen competition at Ballymena Raceway’s Speed Fest event on August 21 and 22 with a number of racers from the Ballymoney areas amonst the main contenders.

All in all twenty seven races were contested over the two days with a number of championship titles decided during the course of the weekend with some extremely exciting racing thrilling the large number of spectators who turned up on both days.

Steven McKane was the big winner, the Ballymena racer triumphant in both the GP2 World Cup race and the Stock Rod UK Masters event.

Ballymoney’s Andy McLeister was involved in the thick of some heated GP2 racing over the weekend. The Ballymoney battler was involved in a clash with defending champion Johny Gillespie during Friday’s World Cup event, before finishing a very close second to Jason Clyde in Saturday’s Irish Open.

Alistair Christie from Ballymoney raked up a trio of top three finishes in his immaculate Vauxhall Astra on his way to the runner-up spot in the Euro Stocks Irish Grand Prix.

Other winners over the weekend include Nigel McCauley in the National Hot Rods, Graham Fegan in the F2 Stock Cars, Jamie Hunter in the Junior Rods and Adam Sloan in the Stock Rods. This was a great weekend of racing, thanks to all the competitors and sponsors.
