BALLYMONEY United Colts go into the final fixture of the season knowing that their title bid is firmly in their own hands.
That's because the boys from the Toon turned on the style in Belfast on Saturday to beat championship rivals Cliftonville 2-0, thanks to two goals from Scott Lynas.

That sets up Monday’s trip to Limavady nicely for John McMullan's boys who need to
win to be sure of lifting the league title in only their second season in existence.

It's a fantastic position to be in for the Colts who have been on a great run since the turn of the year to shoot up the Irish youth League standings.

They now find themselves top of the pile and with this game at Limavady possibly their crowning glory.

Although nobody is taking anything for granted, as manager McMullan confirmed: "Limavady are a good team, they beat Linfield earlier in the season so we know it will be a tough game.

“No matter what happens, though, this has been another good season for the team and when you consider that half of the squad still has another two seasons to be eligible for youth football it says everything about how well they’ve done.

“The aim of the game is to develop players for the first team and a number of the boys have had chances there this season and that is a good sign.

“We’ll hopefully be at full strength for Monday’s game and our boys should be confident in their own abilities.”

As things stand at the top, with one game left for all teams, it's Ballymoney Colts on 40 points, Cliftonville Strollers one place back on 39, with Linfield Rangers out of contention in third with 36.

All that means this Saturday will decide the destination of the title with Cliftonville faced with a tricky tie against Coleraine Colts, while Ballymoney are in Limavady.

If they are to clinch the title, a repeat of Saturday's performance is called for on Roeside.

Ballymoney started the brighter on Saturday and although they were up against a very physical Cliftonville side they played some excellent football, especially in the first ten minutes of the match.

Mark Gillan hit the bar and they put a lot of pressure on the the Cliftonville defence.
