A VERY fast Armoy Track was the setting for the Northern Ireland Classic Scrambles Club 2008 championship opener.
Anyone who fancied a sniff at the points from this round definitely had the "need for speed" in the almost perfect conditions.
After first practice one technical section of the course had to be removed as underlying rock had surfaced on an offset
camber giving officials enough cause for concern to remodel. The alterations had removed two of the slower corners leaving a fast flowing circuit on a perfect surface making for very quick racing.
It was nice to see club debutant Oliver Hughes from Dublin have a good solid performance on the 250 Husqvarna and W Stephenson back in the saddle on the big Yamaha after more than a decade away from the game. He put in a cracking set of results that I'm sure the grading committee will want a closer look at, showing he had lost nothing from the lengthy layoff.
A one hour delay because of an accident meant almost non-stop racing throughout the afternoon to try and complete the program on time. Good cooperation from both riders and officials did indeed see the full program concluded within the allotted time and thankfully without any further incident.
