THE big game in Division last week saw the league leaders Rack's Rack and Rollers held to a draw by nearest rivals the Dervock Destroyers as a result of some clinical finishing by Dervock's Tommy Morrow. The game also saw no less than eight 8 ball clearances.
Division One
Rack and Rollers Vs Dervock Destroyers
The Glamour tie of Division one took centre stage last week in the "Racks" Ballymoney League, it was Eight Ball finishes galore as League leaders Rack and Rollers claimed two points against their
fiercest rivals in Division one.
In the opener Gareth McMaster set the tone for the class as he broke and finished, then Ryan Craig responded for Rollers with a good finish in play to level, only for McMaster to go in and break and finish again securing the first match for the Destroyers.
A fine blend of Potting and safety saw Lyam McDermott level the match at 1-1 with a 2-0 win over Chris Mulholland. Rollers captain Nigel Craig made it 2-1 Rollers with a 2-0 win over Gareth Johnson.
The set was safe going into the last as a result of the frame count however this did not stop Tommy Morrow putting on a vintage show for any onlookers as he came from a 1-0 deficit to record back to back eightballers to beat Noel McDermott 2-1.
In the second set, Gareth McMaster was again on the top of his game as he defeated Lyam McDermott 2-0.
Chris Mulholland bounced back from set one with a 2-0 of his own this time against Noel McDermott with a nicest of eightballers in the second. Ryan Craig struck back with a break and finish and a good take to put Rollers back in set two.
Nigel Craig then took out a break and finish in the first as he tried to force the game into a playoff but the ever reliable Tommy Morrow switched on the style to take the match to a draw as he came back to win 2-1.
Rack's Rookies Vs Boondock Saints
The Boondock Saints continue to be the bravest battlers in the top flight, however for the second week running they came away with no points to show for their efforts.
Mark Broderick played a nice tactical frame to take the opener against Stefan Christie but Stefan was just too good as took out two very difficult finishes to put the Rookies one up. Saints Captain John McAllister was next up against Rookies Captain Chris Rankin.
McAllister took the first in a rather fortunate manner as he escaped the snooker to pot the black into the middle pocket. McAllister then Broke and finished to secure a 2-0 win and level the match at one all. In the next two Rookies showed there class as they came from one nil down in each of the last two matches as Ricky Clyde and Michael Baird defeated Stewart McArthur and Daire Buckley respectively. Rookies took the first point 3-1.
In the Second Set, Rookies were not going to be stopped as Chris Rankin took his chance against an unfortunate Stewart McArthur beating him 2-1 in a close encounter. Daire Buckley met the same fates as he rued chances missed as he was defeated by a clinical Ricky Clyde in the next. Michael Baird made sure as he defeated Mark Broderick to secure maximum points for rookies who were better on the night and beginning to run into good form.
Division Two
There were some very interesting fixtures in Division Two; As League leaders the pocket knockers took on the revamped Diamond Diamonds, who after the match decided to change their name to the Slow Starters. Elsewhere the Dishermen were in action against The Sensations and Ballymoney Blaze tackled the inform Rat Pack.
Roy's Rovers Vs Racks Rogues
On paper Rovers looked certain to take the two points on offer against the Racks Rogues and so it was to prove on the night if a performance was needed after last week's defeat then a performance was given on the night.
Sean Quigg already making waves since signing for Rovers kept up his winning ways with a solid 2-0 win over Chris Clyde, one was soon two as Ricky Pollock another in fine form this season stretched the advantage with a 2-0 win over Steven Clyde.
The set was soon safe as Ronnie Leslie dug deep to come from one down to beat a spirited Willy Wilmot 2-1. Aidy Darragh secured the Whitewash with a 2-0 win over John Wilmot.
The second set didn't prove to be any better for Rogues despite Willy Wilmot continuing his fine form beating the upcoming Daniel McMillan 2-1 in the first but Roy's have their eyes on the title and were not to be stifled as Ricky Pollock levelled in the next beating John Wilmot 2-0, Ronnie Leslie made it two from two on the night with a classy win over Steven Clyde and Aidy Darragh made the maximum points safe for Roy's boys with a 2-0 win in the last against Chris Clyde.
UUC Dishermen Vs The Sensations
Despite the Sensations having a great record this season many fancied the Dishermen to upset the Sensations fine run and there was no accounting for experience as the sensations taught the University Boys a lesson on the night.
In the opening set, Philip Shaw took a typically steady 2-0 over Bryan Gaynor to put sensations in front, Rodney McCaughern made it 2-0 beating Johnny Parker 2-0 in the next pulling off a couple of classy shots in the process.
Steven McGowan tried to rally his team mates with a great display of attacking pool beating Graeme Wauser 2-0 but it was to no avail as Andrew McAlonan Edged out Neil McMurran to take the first set for the Sensations.
Set two, proved to be very similar indeed the sensations did what they have been doing in recently matches and simply steamrolled the opposition Andrew McAlonan played Neil McMurran again and Sensations lead as Andy won the first 2-0. Graham Wauser Made it 2-0 with a 2-0 of his own against an out of sorts Johnny parker in the next.
Bryan Gaynor was unable to halt the Charge of the sensations despite taking the lead against Rodney McCaughern as the sensations man made the point's safe coming back to win 2-1. Philip Shaw insured a second set whitewash for his team as he defeated Steven McGowan in the last.
Ballymoney Blaze Vs The Rat Pack
This Match was billed as the Ballymoney Blaze against The Rat pack but in reality it should have been named the Andrew Kincaid as the University man took Philip McMullan out of the first match in style by virtue of a break and finish and another good finish to out the rat pack one up. New signing Gerard Carson made it 2-0 rat pack with a solid 2-1 win over Johnny Nicholl.
Blaze captain Sam Campbell pulled his side back into the game with a 2-1 against the consistent Matthew Rafferty, but a Classy Phil McLean made sure for the Rats with a 2-0 win over Steven Elder.
In the second set, Andrew Kincaid again put his opponent to the sword with an impressive array of shots beat Sam Campbell 2-0 despite the Blaze man doing little wrong. In the next Steven Elder edged out Matthew Rafferty to level the set at 1-1. Philip McMullan made it 2-1 blaze with a cool 2-0 win over Gerard Carson. Phil McLean didn't let the 2-1 deficit faze him as he won a tight affair against Johnny Nicholl to send the match into a playoff. It was that man Kincaid again who did the job making it three from three on the night beating Philip McMullan 2-0 to win the Rat Pack two points.
Pocket Knockers Vs Diamond Diamonds
The knockers were looking to ensure maximum points to confirm their title challenge against a revamped stylish looking Diamonds. Colin Barkley got the show on the road for Knockers in the first with a 2-0 win in the first. But Diamonds struck back with a 2-0 win over Knockers captain Philip Craig. It was soon 2-1 to the Diamonds and despite Gary Bacons win for Knockers in the last Diamonds took set one on the count back.
In set two, Philip Craig made an immediate reply for Knockers in set two as he won the first 2-1. Diamonds levelled as Christopher Lamont edged out Jimmy Hanna. Colin Barkley made it 2-1 knockers but a defeat for Gary bacon forced set two into a playoff, However Phil Craig was unable to save his team this time as he was comprehensively beaten 2-0 by Diamond's Paul.
