BALLYMONEY'S long-distance swimmer, Jeff Wilson, has spoken of his breath-taking efforts in a 22-hour swim at the weekend.
The north Antrim man was part of a four-man team which took part in the notoriously-difficult Lough Erne Relay Challenge, starting on Thursday.
The team was meant to consist of six swimmers, but two pulled out at the very last minute meaning the fearless four took on even more waves themselves.

Jeff, along with team-mates Trevor Woods, Chris O'Sullivan - both from Dublin, and Donegal man George Meenan, set off from Crum at Lough Erne at 2.20pm last Thursday.
Fifty miles and 22 hours 29 minutes later they swam into Beleek to complete the challenge.

Their time was regarded as exceptional but had it not been for the two withdrawals they'd have shattered the record time.
"It made a big difference," said Jeff, "because it means you can have an extra two hours rest into between swims.

"If we had been a six-man team then we would have smashed the time record, I've got no doubt.
"It was a fantastic experience, really unbelievable. You were constantly psyching yourself up because another turn swimming was never too far away.

"We each swam 12 and a half miles of the race and it was really hard going. But it was a memorable experience - I was swimming through Enniskkilen at 20 past one in the morning and then as the sun was coming up.

"We had night sticks on our back as did the canoeist who was guiding us but that was all you could see through the night.
"The last two hours were really nip and tuck so it was a great performance to get so close to winning."

The record the four-man team set should last for a good while to come and the swimmers can't wait for a crack at it again next year. Only this time they hope there's another two to lighten the load!
