ON Sunday 21 June, eight of the Causeway Judo Clubs' students went to Clondermot School in Derry for the second Judo Grading of the year.
Over the past few weeks, all the training at the club had been geared towards the grading for those involved and it was now time to put new skills to the test. Although there were the usual nerves before the event, they were put aside once the competitors got onto the mat and everyone performed well enough to be progressed up through the grades.
Special mentions go to Christopher Gayle who performed so well on the day he actually was allowed to start his progression onto obtaining the coveted black belt and Jason Madison who was un-defeated.
Also juniors Jacob Ashcroft and Gracious Phillips were also un-defeated in all their contests.
Alan Ashcroft, coach of the Causeway Club said:
"This event was another success for our club and I'm very proud of how the students performed at it. The standard of opposition was very high at this grading and our students more than held their own on the mats"
The Causeway club is taking a break from training over the summer, but training will commence again at the Castle Community Centre, Ballymoney in August.
Anyone looking to try Judo is more than welcome to come along and all you need is an old tracksuit to get started.
Training takes place on Tuesday and Thursday nights.
The Junior sessions run between 7pm to 8pm and the Seniors 8pm to 9.30pm.
