ARMOY lady, Mary McCaughan, has spent 22 years looking after the interests of children in the village through her job first as school meals supervisor and then as a school crossing patrol officer.
No surprise then that when she retired from her job recently, she will still be looking after little uns - only this time her grandchildren!
In recognition of her work and worth down the years, Mary was presented with jewellery and a bouquet of flowers by St. Olcan's P.S. principal, Marion Lewis, with every good wish for the future.
Mary spent ten years as school meals supervisor in the school before making sure she was at The Diamond area of the village every school morning to ensure a safe passage across a busy road for the youngsters of St. Olcan's.
Mary loved both jobs and is sorry to be leaving, but time moves on and she feels it is right that she should devote some time to her grandchildren whom she naturally adores.
During her time at the school, Mary has known five principals - Dominic Kerr, Terence McCollum, Sybl McAlonan, Sinead Johnston and the present head, Marion Lewis.
"I always enjoyed a wee chat in the morning with locals and it was a job that I liked a lot," Mary said of her school crossing patrol job.
The school, parents and children all wish Mary every success in the future and thank her for her diligence.
