THE Senior Sports at the Model were held last Friday and a large number of parents and friends turned up to enjoy the sports which were held in glorious sunshine.
The heats for the sack races and finals of the Year 5 and 6 long jumps were held in the morning. The long jump champions in Year 5 were Grace Carson and Josh Brown, while the Year 6 winners were Esther-Ruth Morrison and Luke Mitchell.

The afternoon events started at 1.30 and chief guest, Constable Colin Gibson was in attendance to watch and enjoy the various events.
The heats and finals of the Year 4 to 7 sprints were held before the finals of the Year 7 Long

Jump and all the Sack and Obstacle Race Finals. The House Relay Races then completed the afternoon's events. Many of the races were closely contested and many surprises were witnessed as some children excelled themselves in the various events.

Before announcing the winners of the various age groups, the Principal Mr McVeigh, invited Constable Gibson to say a few words to the children and their parents.

He congratulated the children for the sporting nature in which they contested the various events and the support which they gave to each other before, during and after the races. He also congratulated the staff for the way in which the whole event was organised.

Mr McVeigh in turn thanked the teaching and non-teaching staff for the preparations they had made and the running of the sports, and the cleaning staff who gave of their time to sell the much appreciated refreshments.

Constable Gibson then presented the children with the Year Group Awards. Special mention was made of Luke Mitchell and Brad Lyons who won all the events they entered and Brad Lyons who had won his year group award every year since he first came to the Model in Primary 1.
