CONGRATULATIONS to 30 high flying students, including six from Ballymoney, who successfully gained their 'Certificate in Airline and Airport Customer Care' at the Northern Regional College.
This very successful course is the only one of its kind in Northern Ireland and due to the expansion of airline industry at Belfast International Airport the College is best situated for offering this course to the local community. Students were presented with their certificates at the International Airport, by Karen McLeod, Programme Manager for Travel and Tourism at NRC.

This part-time certificate programme, specifically aimed at the Airline and Airport industry, is suitable for all age groups and for those students who wish to obtain the skills and a recognised qualification. In today's vibrant travel and tourism industry, this course is delivering the key skills which employers are seeking from individuals. The content studied by students is relevant to the industry needs, with the prime focus on the passenger.

Included in their studies is airline and airport customer care, creating a positive impression with passengers, solving passenger problems and the importance of product knowledge of the entire airline industry.

Commenting on the success of the course and the students, Programme Manager Karen McLeod explains, "Since NRC introduced this programme in September 2007, it is proved to be extremely popular with students and the education provision has gone from strength to strength. This particular certificate level 2 programme, provides learners with the necessary skills and knowledge to succeed further at undergraduate level and enhance overall employability. These students are currently studying for their second certificate in 'Airline and Airport Passenger Service Agent Skills."

The course is commended by Deborah Matchett , PR Executive at Belfast International Airport. Deborah explains: "There is no doubt that the enhanced portfolio of Travel and Tourism courses is very welcome by the International Airport and supports the training and development needs of local students and industry. As the airport is on the doorstep of NRC, the airport and the college aim to complement the industries vision, of people first, through meeting personal and professional needs of the workforce."

NRC also offer full-time National Diploma and First Diploma Travel and Tourism courses for school leavers. The industry offers an enormous range of career opportunities within areas such as, Tour Operations, Airline and Airports, Visitor Attractions, Conference and Events, Hospitality and Accommodation, Transportation and Tourist Boards.

Two new courses which will further enhance travel and tourism provision will be introduced in September 2008, named Certificate in Air Cabin Crew Operations and Certificate in setting up a Tourism Business.
