NORTH Antrim MLA, Mervyn Storey has responded to the Irish News placing Dalriada School in the top ten in Northern Ireland for exam results.
He said: “The fact that Dalriada School was included earlier this week in the Irish News top ten schools for exam results in Northern Ireland is very encouraging.

“The school has already won the Sunday Times Northern Ireland School of the Year awa
rd recently.

“This recognition is a great credit to pupils, staff, governors and others associated with the school.

“They have contributed to the success of the school which has a well-earned reputation for academic excellence. As well as exam success, the school offers a wide range of excellent extra-curricular activities.

“Clearly seeking to place schools on the basis solely of A-level performance is not an exact science and the very different intakes of schools should always be taken into consideration.

“There is much more to a good school that simply producing top results.

“The high number of maintained school in the Irish News top ten indicates just how far out of step the current Education Minister is with public opinion right across the whole community in Northern Ireland.

“The DUP fought hard to preserve our grammar schools and the entitlement for pupils to be matched to the most appropriate school for their individual needs.

“A good education system can ensure the province continues to produce highly skilled students who can help build our economy.”
