BALLYMONEY Model Primary School brought the curtain down on another memorable school year last week.
In a fitting ceremony, the school's top achievers were all recognised at their Prize Day in the school's assembly hall.

The Vice Principal, Miss Herron welcomed the Guest of Honour, Pastor Steven Curry, who had recently become Pastor of Bethany Elim Church in Bangor, Co. Down.

In her opening comments Miss Herron reminded everyone present of Pastor Curry's long association with the school, both as a parent and as a frequent visitor to assemblies and classes. Miss Herron then asked the choir who was accompanied by Mrs Carson to sing two items.

Other musical selections were performed by individual children before Mr McVeigh was invited to give a brief summary of what was a very busy and successful school year. It was perhaps one of the most successful school years with teams and individual children winning no less that twelve major trophies and awards.

These included the Credit Union, PSNI and Road Safety Quizzes for Primary Schools, the Girls' Hockey Tournament, The best school at Ballymoney Show, The Ballymoney and District Primary Schools' Swimming Gala, the Road Safety Public Speaking Competition, the Cup for Solo singing at Coleraine Festival the Mullan Cup for 5-a-side and the Doherty Cup (11-a-side football].

Two families also generously donated two awards for presentation. The Lyons family (Brad] presented a Cup for Junior Football Skills and the Murray family (Hannah] presented a shield for Junior Character and Influence.

Having distributed the prizes and awards to the children listed below Pastor Curry spoke to the parents and children about his time in Ballymoney and his sons positive experiences at Ballymoney Model Primary School. Indeed Andrew who recently completed his studies at Stranmillis Teacher Training College completed his last teaching practice at the Model.

In conclusion Mr McVeigh thanked the parents, staff and pupils for making this one of the most memorable years at the Model and Pastor Curry for giving of his time to present the awards.
