Sarah Jayne's brave gesture

Nine-year-old Sarah Jayne Madison decided to have her own long hair cut in aid of the Little Princess charity which specialises in making wigs for children who have lost their own hair because of cancer treatment.

On Sarah Jayne’s Just Giving fundraising page, the story continues: “Sarah Jayne has decided to cut her beautiful long hair and donate it to the Little Princess Trust charity.

“This charity specialises in making wigs for children receiving cancer treatment so that they do not feel different if they lose their hair.

“Sarah Jayne, who suffers from juvenile arthritis herself, has seen these kids while having her own treatment in the Royal Victoria and Musgrave Park Hospitals in Belfast. We think she is very brave to do this for such a young girl (9 years old).”

Daughter of Ryan and Angela Madison, Sarah Jayne, a pupil at Carrowreagh PS, has set herself a target of raising £500 for the Little Princess Trust. To date she has raised £375.

The Little Princess Trust was launched in 2006 by the parents of Hannah Tarplee. Sadly she was diagnosed with having a Wilms tumour and after a brave battle, died in 2005. At that time, finding high quality wigs for children was very difficult. After Hannah passed away, so many kind people offered help, financial and practical. Hannah’s parents, Wendy and Simon decided that the most fitting way to use this help was to launch a charity dedicated to providing specialist real hair children’s wigs. The charity has now helped thousands of boys and girls.
