New courses at WAVE Trauma

As an organisation, WAVE has gained a mass of expertise in delivering accredited, trauma- focussed education courses to those who have been bereaved, traumatised or injured through the ‘Troubles’ in Northern Ireland, or those working in the community and with agencies impacted by the legacy of Conflict in Northern Ireland.

On 10th November, the WAVE Trauma Centre in Ballymoney will host an Information Launch from noon - 2pm to celebrate the new collaboration between Open Learning, School of Education, Queen’s University, Belfast and Trauma Training within WAVE.

A range of trauma-focussed short courses in the areas of addiction, traumatic loss, resiliency and psychological trauma, accredited at Level 1, 10 CATTS are now available through the Ballymoney WAVE Centre.

Trauma Training Coordinator, Marie-Therese O’Hagan said: “The Troubles in Northern Ireland has left a legacy of grief, trauma and pain and it is vitally important that individuals who support and care for those affected by violence have access to high quality training and education in this field of work.”

WAVE Project Manager, Sonja Tammen is encouraging the local community, voluntary and statutory agencies to attend this information session.

“For many years there was a gap in trauma training but the WAVE Trauma Centre in Ballymoney has been very busy delivering psychological trauma courses to meet the needs of the local community.” Sonja also commented that this is an excellent opportunity to meet the Trauma Training Team in WAVE and learn more about these new opportunities to become more trauma aware practitioners.
