Communities Minister, Paul Girvan revealed an investment by his Department of £500,000 to advance the regeneration of Portrush ahead of The Open Championship in 2019.

He also announced that the towns of Coleraine and Ballymoney would benefit from revitalisation schemes to the tune of £440,000, with each town receiving £200,000 from the Department of Communities and a further £20,000 from Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council

MLA Bradley said: “Both of these announcements are great news, and I thank Minister Girvan for his continued support.

“It will be a great honour for this area to host the 2019 Open at Royal Portrush, but we must ensure that there is a legacy left behind, and this investment is a positive step towards this.

“We know that The Open will showcase this area on a world market and will bring huge economic benefits to both Portrush and its neighbouring towns. I have no doubt that the Portrush scheme will enhance the visitor experience and be welcome news for local residents.

Speaking about the investment in Coleraine and Ballymoney, MLA Bradley added: “The revitalisation schemes in Ballymoney and Coleraine will support our local traders and will help to reinvigorate areas of our town centres.

“We have already witnessed how these schemes have had a positive impact on other areas of Coleraine and indeed other towns. Any efforts to support our local traders and boost visitor numbers must be commended.”
