A founding member of the Palestine Human rights campaign of the early 1970’s from New Zealand, Roger Fowler, visited Ballycastle last week to learn more on the Gaza-Moyle Twinning Programme.
Mr. Fowler intends to pursue a similar agreement between a Municipality in Gaza and Aucklan.
Moyle Independent Councillor Padraig McShane said it was an honour to host such a high profile visitor to the area.
“Roger is a universally renowned human rights activist, and a leader in the field of humanity,” said Cllr McShane.
“As well as his efforts on behalf of the Palestinian people, he is noted for his work on behalf of the indigenous communities in his native New Zealand.”
Mr Fowler was an activist in the Ponsonby People’s Union, which staged mass sit-ins to stop landlords evicting tenants in what was then a poor suburb. He was an active unionist in all his workplaces.
