Redbay Lifeboat was launched on Sunday (6.20am) after a man was injured at Fair Head near Ballycastle.

Following a search, the lifeboat crew located the man, who had a suspected broken ankle, and two crew members administer first aid. A Coastguard team from Ballycastle was also transferred to the area and a rescue helicopter from Preswick was requested to airlift the casualty due to his injuries and location.

A Paramedic was winched to the scene, however due to another emergency off the Donegal Coast the helicopter had to immediately recover their winch-man and assist in the other emergency.

In a difficult operation the lifeboat crew and coastguards placed the injured man into a stretcher and recovered him from the rocks to the lifeboat. He was then transferred to a waiting ambulance crew at Ballycastle Harbour. His condition remains stable.
