Is this Northern Ireland's loneliest dog?

Staff at an Antrim based animal shelter are hoping an overlooked rescue dog finds love this Valentine’s day after six months waiting for that special someone at Dogs Trust Ballymena.

Labrador Cross, Vinnie is described by staff as a “wonderful dog” with tonnes of love to give, yet he sadly continues to be ignored by potential adopters.

Staff are concerned he is becoming lonelier by the day, despite being showered with affection by his canine carers, as he hasn’t a special home to call his own. His carers and canine chums alike, all have their fingers and paws crossed that he’ll be whisked off to his forever home ahead of the most romantic weekend of the year.

Dogs Trust Ballymena Rehoming Centre Manager, Oonagh Phillips explains: “All of us at the Rehoming Centre adore Vinnie as he is such a special boy. Vinnie arrived at the Rehoming Centre back in August last year. He was extremely underweight when he arrived and poorly with a kidney condition.”

“He has since doubled in weight and is now happy and healthy. However we are concerned that he is very lonely as nobody is interested in him. He’s a super handsome boy with a fantastic personality so we just can’t work out why nobody wants him. All of us at Dogs Trust Ballymena are hoping, this Valentine’s Day, somebody out there realises Vinnie is their “pawfect” match!”

Seven year old Vinnie is described as a “gentle giant” by his canine carers. His ideal day is spent exploring the great outdoors and having a good ol’ sniff around before snuggling up for an afternoon snooze on a comfy bed. He loves delicious doggy treats and lots of cuddles.

Vinnie is looking for a loving family home with children aged 12 and over. He would like to be the only dog in his new home so he can lap up all the attention for himself. Vinnie has an ongoing kidney condition so requires a special diet, however it doesn’t slow him down at all and rehoming centre staff can advise on this.
