Huge crowds enjoy “positive school personality”

Ballymoney High School throbbed as usual with learning and life at the school’s Annual Transfer Evening on Monday 14th January as a bumper crowd of primary pupils and parents experienced for themselves the variety and quality of education provided at the school.

Principal (Rodney Scott) and Vice Principal (Cynthia Currie) were delighted as always to welcome the large numbers of interested parents and pupils from the borough, surrounding villages and further afield.

A warm welcome and active learning atmosphere was felt and experienced by all present from the opening short talks in the assembly hall to the full display of subject rooms and activities open to view and sample. The positive personality of the school was evident for all to enjoy and drew many compliments.

Mr Scott emphasised the quality of people and provision within Ballymoney High School which meant it genuinely offered learning for all abilities…learning for future life... and learning together with positive relationships and pastoral support.

As a strong, successful and sustainable school both now and for the future, the many positive reasons to choose Ballymoney High included:

• teaching and support staff with experience and expertise across all subjects

• the appropriate and excellent variety of teaching methods, resources and technologies used

• the comprehensive curriculum offered in all years progressing to a full range of academic, practical and vocational courses at GCSE

• a proven record of examination achievement for all pupils to the highest levels, alongside a wealth of extra-curricular opportunities

• a pupil centred approach promoting values, expectations and personal development

Mrs Currie emphasised the strength of pastoral care, the practical personal support and the positive expectations for conduct and learning that underpinned every pupil’s development and achievement. These were a true hallmark of the school in its work for and with its young people. Praise, encouragement, reward and positive relationships combined with appropriate sanctions, support and guidance. Recent Inspection visits had commended these aspects of the school.

The visiting young people and parents had ample time to view, touch, smell, taste and hear the variety and vibrancy of learning on offer in every subject area. This gave them a real experience of the school’s “personality” and how they could become a successful member of it. Many parents remarked upon the “warm welcome”, “friendly relationships”, “busy pupils who obviously enjoy their lessons and activities”, “the great range of subjects and resources on offer”, “interest in the young people personally as well as academically”, “desire to have pupils achieve their best” and the “fine results being achieved”.
