A Ballycastle teenager said fond farewell to her ponytails and dark long locks when she donated 15 inches of her hair to The Little Princess Trust charity.
Jordanne McAlister, who celebrated her 14th birthday on Thursday, had hair below her waist last Tuesday morning – but had gladly waved goodbye to her acclaimed tresses by lunchtime the same day.
The Ballycastle High School pupil was following in the footsteps of pop star Jessie J who last year also donated her hair to The Little Princess Trust, a charity which provides real-hair wigs to boys and girls across the UK and Ireland who have lost their own hair through cancer treatment.
“Jordanne has always had long thick shiny hair,” said her 40-year-old mum Noelle McAlister.
“She always wanted to do something like this and donate her gorgeous hair to a worthy cause.
“When she heard about The Little Princess Trust who provide real wings for boys and girls suffering from hair loss she knew that’s what she wanted to do- there was no talking her out of it.
“The whole thing has taken more out of me than Jordanne, she’s just took the whole thing in her stride.
“I can honestly say there isn’t a prouder mum than me.
“Jordanne is such a great girl and I love her dearly.”
