Public events seeking views on how social homes may be allocated in the future will take place later this month.

Housing Minister Nelson McCausland urging the public to give their views, said: “These events are a great opportunity for the public to hear about these new independent recommendations and express their views on how social homes may be allocated in the future.

“The allocation of social homes is a very important issue and I would encourage as many people as possible to attend these events and join in the debate. The comments gathered during the consultation and at each of the events will be considered as I develop proposals for the future of social housing allocations.”

The independent reports are focused on making social housing allocation fairer and easier to understand. The authors have recommended that clearer information should be available so that people can make decisions about their housing options.

Details of the events are as follows:

· 10.00am Tuesday 21 January, Belfast City Mission, Grosvenor House, 5 Glengall Street, Belfast, BT12 5AD.

· 10.00am Wednesday 22 January, City Hotel, Queens Quay, Londonderry, BT48 7AS.

· 10.00am Friday 31 January, Craigavon Civic & Conference Centre, Lakeview Road, Craigavon, BT64 1AL.

There will be presentations and discussion on the proposals from 10.30am - 12 Noon, and drop-in from 12 Noon to 2pm. To register your interest, contact allocations@dsdni.gov.uk or telephone 028 9082 9276.

Following public comments on the independent recommendations, the Department will consider all feedback and publish a summary of the responses and its final proposals. These proposals will be subject to full public consultation. It is expected that this will take place late in 2014.

Details of the consultation reports are available on the DSD website at http://www.dsdni.gov.uk/allocations-research.htm.
