John Currie, a highly regarded professional photographer with offices in Union Street passed away at his Queens Avenue home on Friday.

His association with photography stretched back for years and such was his reputation that the former Ballymoney Council engaged him for their portraits of chairmen and Mayors which currently hang in offices at Riada House.

Mr Currie, who had strong religious convictions, is survived by his wife Anna and children, Richard and Janice. His funeral took place at Hebron Free Presbyterian Church on Sunday.

North Antrim DUP MLA Mervyn Storey said: “It was with a sense of sadness that we learned of John’s passing. While we have watched him deal with his illness since November and realised that one day he would come to the end of his earthly journey, yet it was with a sense of loss when when we heard of his passing. John Currie was in every sense of the word a godly man. He was the genuine article. As a local businessman he was highly respected and there are few homes in Ballymoney and beyond that do not have a photograph that was either taken or restored by John. More online.

“I had the great privilege to serve with John as an elder in Hebron Frees Presbyterian Church. He was and indeed remains an example to us all. His words of wise council and godly example leave a legacy that is enduring.

“To his wife Anna, daughter Janice and son Richard and their family’s and his brother Peter and his family we extend our sincere sympathy and continue to assure them of our thoughts and prayers. I have lost a true friend and faithful co worker. John Currie was a true example of how our Christian faith should be lived and I know that he would want us to ensure that we followed his Saviour and lived our lives to His glory.”
