Following a meeting with Moyle DRD Roads Service Section Engineer John McKinney, MLA Robin Swann and Cllr Sandra Hunter can confirm that, when funding becomes available, a further section of approximately one mile is proposed to be resurfaced on the B146 Causeway Road.
This will be a continuation of the resurfacing which has just been completed and ends at the Causeway School. The proposal is to continue the resurfacing to include the Aird.
Cllr Hunter said: “It will probably be next year before work can commence, but I would like to see the works started sooner rather than later, ideally before the next tourist season starts. It would be great to have the works completed before the Giro d’Italia in May.
“Part of the route will see the cyclists travel to North Antrim going through Bushmills past the Causeway using the B146 Causeway Road. The Causeway Road serves not only the Moyle District, but Northern Ireland’s most outstanding tourist attraction. Locals and visitors alike will benefit greatly from the additional proposed resurfacing.”
Robin Swann MLA praised Moyle Roads Service as well as Regional Development Minister Danny Kennedy for his commitment to Moyle.
