North Antrim DUP MLA Mervyn Storey has welcomed the announcement by DSD Minister Nelson McCausland of an additional £12 million in funding for 16,000 new boilers.
Mr Storey said:
“I do very much welcome this announcement from the Social Development Minister of this additional funding for a new scheme to commence this September.”
“This recently announced scheme will be open to owner occupiers who earn less than £40,000 and who have an inefficient boiler which is at least 15 years old. Under this scheme grants of up to £1,000 are available. This is to help with replacing an inefficient boiler, depending on total gross income. This can be done by way of switching from an inefficient boiler for a more efficient boiler; switching from oil to gas; or switching to a wood pellet boiler.
“I would want to take this opportunity to encourage people who think they may qualify to apply for this.
“It is intended that this funding, provided by the Northern Ireland Executive, will help around 16,000 homes across Northern Ireland.
“This announcement is one positive example of how it is that under devolution a Minister can prioritise the help that can be given to hard pressed families.”
