BUSHMILLS DUP councillor Robert McIlroy told the Moyle meeting in relation to funding for Ballycastle Christmas lights that they they are “giving away thousands” there but yet the “people of Bushmills cannot even get a couple of bulbs and a wee bit of pruning done”.

The councillor said he has been asking the Council for months to fix a light at Bushmills War Memorial and lights at the Millennium Park and trees cut back at Mount Pleasant in the town.

He said there was an area of “wilderness” and old people could not see the River Bush.

Council officer Aidan McPeake said the Council has ordered up the fittings for the War Memorial and they have received prices for the trimming operation at Mount Pleasant.

SDLP councillor Donal Cunningham hit back at complaints about funding for Ballycastle and said that the Council had agreed rural development projects involving £35,000 being spent outside the town.

He said they all had to work together for the good of the whole area.
