Warning to householders on callers asking for money

Detectives in Coleraine are warning householders in the Northwest and North Antrim areas to be wary of callers to their homes asking for money.

A number of reports have been received by police of a man claiming to be in distress calling to houses in the Derry, Coleraine and Bushmills areas over the last few weeks and asking for money to pay for diesel.

The man is described as around 40 years old, approx 5’ 8” tall with dark hair.

Police would strongly advise against giving money to strangers in this way and instead report any incident of a suspicious nature to CID in Coleraine on 0845 600 8000.

Or if someone would prefer to provide information without giving their details, they can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers and speak to them anonymously on 0800 555 111.
