LOCAL Independent Councillor, Roma McAfee, has welcomed a clean-up at the town’s War Memorial.
In a statement, Cllr. McAfee said: “Back last November I was asked by the Royal British Legion to see if the Council would do something to have the War Memorial tidied up.
“I was shown amongst others the broken slabs and agreed that improvements needed to be made. I especially thought that given that this year when there is to be a number of important events, the state of the War Memorial was totally unacceptable.
“I was pleased to note that the Council Officers completed the first stage of the work in time for the granting of the Freedom of the Borough to the Royal Irish Regiment and look forward to seeing the remaining renovations later in the year.”
