North Antrim DUP MLA and Chairman of the Assembly Education Committee Mervyn Storey has meet with the Rural Affairs Committee of the Ulster Farmers Union.
Commenting after the meeting held in Cookstown Mr Storey said:
“The importance of rural schools cannot be underestimated,” he said.
“With the current audits being undertaken by the Department of Education there is considerable concern about the existence of some schools, coupled with the financial challenge facing all our schools.
“I was glad of the opportunity to hear first hand from those representing rural life on the Unions rural affairs committee. It was indeed a very valuable and worthwhile meeting.”
