IT was a special day in the parish life of St Mary’s Church in Rasharkin on Saturday evening when, at the vigil Mass, the St Mary’s Youth Choir celebrated 25 years of praising God in song and music.
The choir was formed in January 1988 under the musical direction of Mrs Maura McGuiggan with an original 37 members. The choir performed for the first time in April 1988 and continue to do so till the present day.
On Saturday evening the choir consisting of current members and many who have been part of the choir over the years performed music both from current and previous repertoires’.
Parish priest Fr Johnny Murray spoke of the great privilege it was for the parish to have such wonderful choir and that he had never heard such a talented choir in all his years of ministry.
The parish owe a great depth of gratitude to Mrs Maura McGuiggan and Mrs Leyonia Davey who over the years have given selflessly of themselves to provide a platform for many young people to praise God through song and music and may they continue to do so for many years to come.
