Tuesday 25th June will see a host of health professionals, agencies and other exhibitors convene in Ballycastle High from 2.30pm to 5pm for the school’s first Health and Well-being Fair.
The event is open to the general public and visitors will be able to avail of free health checks and information, as well enjoying the opportunity to try out new therapies and activities. With over twenty exhibitors the fair really should offer something for everyone!
Health issues and concerns are frequently in the headlines. As a result Ballycastle High is keen to help pupils and their families, as well as the wider community to find out more about staying fit and healthy. Monday 16th saw the beginning of a week long focus on health and well-being.
This kind of cross-curricular learning will help underline the importance of making the right lifestyle choices, as well as helping pupils understand how the skills they learn in one subject can be applied in different areas.
Work produced over the week will be on display during the health fair.
There will be a number of exhibitors offering free health checks, including the Action Cancer “Big Bus”. Their breast-screening service and MOT Health Checks focus on early protection and prevention. This should allow local people to have any niggles or worries checked out, as well as getting good advice about how to look after their future health.
To avoid delays or disappointment on the day anyone wishing to use the “Big Bus” should ring (028) 90803344 or visit www.actioncancer.org to book an appointment.
To allow the maximum number of people to make use of the bus it will remain Ballycastle High until the evening of Wednesday 26th June.
There will also be taster sessions on offer from Millburn Complementary Health Centre. Visitors to the fair can enjoy a fifteen minute session with specialist therapists in the following areas: reflexology, aromatherapy, head massage, sports injury and podiatry.
