Recently pupils from St Patrick’s and St Brigid’s Primary School took part in a Salmon in the Classroom field trip.

Students met with local fishing guide and wildlife and biodiversity enthusiast Brendan Kerr and learned about the life cycle of the salmon in the Glenshesk River. Students went on location to a local hatchery and worked with members of Ballycastle Fishing Club to find out about how water quality and other factors influence the salmon population in local rivers. Mr Kinney, Vice Principal, said: “Field work ensures that they (pupils) understand the aesthetic beauty and interconnectedness of the natural environment.”
