The wife of well-known Bushmills historian and author, Robert Thompson, has sadly passed away.

Margaret died peacefully on Wednesday, July 13 at her Riverside Road home. A much-loved wife and mother, Margaret was buried on Saturday in Ballywatt Presbyterian Church. Since the news, tributes have been paid to such a ‘lovely lady’.

Nevin Taggart from Bushmills posted on Facebook: “I received some very sad news. Margaret, wife of my friend Robert Thompson, passed away suddenly. Robert has only recently finished his annual WWI exhibition. Margaret was unable to attend the recent unveiling of the Sergeant Robert Quigg VC statute but otherwise seemed in very good spirits. I always received a very warm welcome in the Thompson home. She will be sadly missed.”

Councillor Joan Baird added: “From the dizzy heights of the Queens visit two weeks ago to complete sadness.”

Posted on the Robert Quigg VC website: “It is with deepest regret that we announce the sudden passing of Margaret Thompson, wife of the President of our Society. She will be greatly missed by us all and our sympathies are extended to family, friends and all who knew her.”
