Riada Area WI’s Spring meeting

THE Riada Area WI’s Armoy, Ballintoy, Ballymoney, Bushmills and Portrush were hosted by Mosside WI in Toberdoney Church hall on Tuesday for a social evening of competitions, guest speaker and entertainment.

Baking, Crafts and Floral competitions were judged in the afternoon with Armoy WI first, Mosside WI second and Portrush and Ballymoney WI’s joint third. Federation Reports were presented by Executive member Mrs Anne Kirkwood and sub-committee members Mrs Inez Richmond updated us on Balmoral, Mrs Marlene Walsh on the Arts, Mrs Beverley Simpson on Magazine & Leisure activities, Miss Doreen Patton MBE on Homecraft and Mrs Margaret McMillan on International.

Finally Ballymoney, Ballintoy and Portrush WI’s reported on their activities.

Special guest Mrs Jennifer Campbell talked to the audience as a proud mother telling us about Alan’s journey to achieving a Bronze medal in last year’s Olympics Games and of his future plans for the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio - we wish him all the best!

Trophies were presented to the Area Quiz team Portrush WI, Bowling Bushmills WI, Drama Salver and Choral tray, going to Armoy WI, Golf trophy shared by Armoy and Bushmills WI’s and Scrapbook page, Mosside WI.

Craft Awards and Ribbons were presented by Executive member Mrs Anne Kirkwood to Armoy members Diane Bartlett for knitting, Isobel. Barkley, crochet, Inez Richmond for Rug making. Mosside WI members Helena McKeeman macramé and millinery, June Simpson macramé, millinery, patchwork and quilting, Betty Scott macramé, quilting and tapestry.

Supper was served by Mosside WI members followed with entertainment by Portrush WI in the form of a sketch called “The Outing” Armoy WI proposed the vote of thanks and the evening closed with the Countrywoman’s song.
