Rasharkin has just re-launched its innovative community youth project with a bang (quite literally!).
Recently, Rasharkin Community Youth Project held a Family African Drumming Evening (which included a presentation of what’s going on in the project over the next 12 months) in the acoustically-friendly Rasharkin Community Centre. With 30 local people from across the community joining the event (including a panel of local adjudicators), it turned out to be an inspiring evening full of fun and fabulous rhythms.
The evening, entitled “Rasharkin’s Got Rhythm”, was structured as a competition, with the young people drumming against the “older” members of the community. The adjudication panel had a tough time deciding who would be crowned the “Rasharkin Kings of Cool” but after much deliberation, the youth drumming team were awarded the much-coveted title! You can see video footage and images from the evening on the Gallery pages of RCYP’s website here http://www.rcyp.wordpress.com . You’ll find plenty of information about the project, upcoming events and how to get involved with the project (as a youth member 11-16 or youth volunteer 17-23) on the website. The youth project’s next event is the launch of their youth forum on the 26th May in Portrush (combining the launch of the forum with an afternoon of surfing). Sounds like it’s all going swimmingly
