Police appeal after petrol theft in town

Police in Ballymoney are investigating an incident at a filling station in the Ballybogey Road area of the town.

On Thursday 20th July between 6.20 pm and 6.30 pm a female entered the shop of the filling station whilst a male put petrol in a silver Toyota Corolla. The lady paid for other goods but did not pay for the petrol.

A police spokesperson told the Times: “We are encouraging retailers and members of the public to report any future incidents to police as soon as possible. This could make a difference.”

Thefts of this nature represent a variation of the forecourt drive off, the spokesperson said and added that police believe that they can thwart these thieves with community assistance.

Police would appeal for anyone with any information about these incidents to contact them in Ballymoney on 0845 600 8000.

Or, if someone would prefer to provide information without giving their details, they can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers and speak to them anonymously on 0800 555 111.
