The British Lung Foundation is fully committed to creating a no smoking regime nationwide, a local Causeway group has heard.

This was the challenging objective presented to Breathe Easy Causeway members at their first meeting of the New Year by Mrs Nessie Blair MBE, the British Lung Foundation Service Development Manager for Northern Ireland.

She said: “BLF is seeking the continued support of all Breathe Easy Groups in this vital persuasion battle.

“I am fully aware that smoking is not the only cause of serious lung disorder, but it is a major contributor.

“We in Northern Ireland will be seeking meetings with the Health Minister to make sure that any new legislation is also introduced here.”

Mrs Blair stressed that children’s lung health was a top priority.

She said that the British Lung Foundation would be consulting parents and Health Care professionals and planning how to raise awareness and support families with babies and children with breathing problems.
