FURTHER details are emerging about proposed Ballycastle Regatta this summer, writes Niall Caldwell.
The event will take place over a period of three days, the first being in June 22nd 2012.
A ‘draft’ line-up of activities has been put forward and the festivities will kick off with a reception for the Official Launch of the Ragatta, with a launch and presentation of ‘Safety at Sea’ at 7pm on Friday June 22.
This will then be followed up at 8pm with a buffet dinner in the new Marine Building for all those who are taking part in the event.
The second day will begin with a welcome at 9.30am by a key note speaker. There will then be the launch of the boats along with a presentation by the Moyle District Council Chairperson. At 10am the main sailing race will begin. The Dingy race will commence at 11am and finish at 1.30pm, with the main race coming to an end at 4pm.
At 6pm a presentation will be made to the winners of each of the Regatta Categories presented by the Council Chairperson.
At 8pm a Knowledge Exchange will take place which will be facilitated by the operators. It will be a show of short presentations on the concept followed by an open floor question and answer session.
The final day’s events on Sunday June 24 will start at 9.30am where a speech will be made by a key note speaker. At 10am the kayak race will head out to sea and return to dock at 11am.
Then at noon a display of the RNLI and Powerboats will rip through the waves for the entertainment of the people.
At 1.30pm, an hour long ‘Local Parade of Sail’ will be conducted, with a prize being awarded for the competitor with the best dressed boat.
Finally at 3pm a presentation will be made to the winner and the Regatta 2012 will close.
