Celebrations are starting early this Wednesday (April 6) as Ballymoney town prepares to celebrate its “movie town” status with the screening of the award winning film ‘Cup Cake’.
Town cafes renowned for their amazing homemade buns, cakes, muffins and a range of delicious other sweet things are joining in the celebrations. Benbrooks and Clock Tower Restaurants and Ground Expresso Bar have all promised “something special” to go with morning and afternoon tea or coffee. Chamber President, Winifred Mellet, welcoming the initiative said: “We have a great café culture in the town and I am delighted that they are playing their part as we celebrate our Movie Town on Wednesday. The specials are a closely guarded secret but I know visitors will not be disappointed.
“Talk of the screening of the film has created a great buzz. Our town hall will be decked out as a cinema for the night including a traditional candy corner. We are really looking forward to what promises to be a great event.”
Since their release last week, ‘Cup Cake’ tickets have been selling that the proverbial ‘hot cake’ in anticipation for the Mayor’s Movie Gala Evening in the Town Hall with all proceeds being donated to the Community Rescue Service. As well as the screening of ‘Cup Cake’, choirs and musicians from Model Integrated Primary School will also entertain the audience before the film.
‘Cup Cake’ was filmed at Leslie Hill estate on the outskirts of Ballymoney as well as Kelly’s pub and Gault’s in Church Street, The Barber Shop in High Street, Ballymoney Town Hall, St Patrick’s Parish Church and Tesco. Many local people also turned up during the filming in the town to be movie extras!
Mayor Bill Kennedy added: “I am delighted that tickets are selling well for this event. All the money raised is going to a worthy cause, close to the hears of this community.
“I am looking forward to seeing the film with all the familiar Ballymoney sights on the big screen.”
The film screening is at 8pm with doors opening at 7.15pm. Tickets £5.00 are available from the Town Hall and Riada House.
