The First Minister Arlene Foster and Finance Minister Mervyn Storey were the guests of honour at Dalriada School on Friday.

The aim of the official ground-breaking ceremony is to mark the School’s new £1.7m sports facilities.

The new facilities have been paid for in full by the Schools Enhancement Programme, courtesy of The Department of Education and will include a state-of-the-art fitness suit, a new gymnasium, new changing facilities and a vibrant refurbishment of the existing sports hall.

The Schools Enhancement Programme is a £35 million scheme introduced in 2015 made possible by an increase of £46.9m in the Department of Education’s capital budget. To date 50 schools have benefitted from it.

Construction at the school began in November 2015 and is expected to be completed and operational by November 2017.
