Agriculture Minister Michelle O’Neill helped introduce a bit of glamour into camping this week when she announced the construction of a £1 million high-end caravan and camping facility at Glenariff Forest Park.
The new facility, which will include provision for nine “glamping” pods and the capacity for 36 caravans and campervans, will be open to campers by this autumn.
Minister O’Neill said: “This very exciting project at Glenariff will certainly add a bit of glamour to the experience.
“It also helps provide welcome support for forest-based tourism and builds on the partnership developed between the Forest Service and Moyle District Council. We now look forward to cementing the relationship between my department and the new Causeway Coast and Glens District Council.
“The outgoing Council members showed great vision in recognising the scope for forests to contribute to tourism development, and advancing plans to allow improvements to take place. The commencement of these works at Glenariff is a milestone for the partners.” The Minister also noted the work done by the Glenariff Improvement Group, a community-based partner and their project Digital Glenariff.
