INDEPENDENT Moyle councillor Padraig McShane has welcome news that Loughgiel could be set to join Ballycastle and Cushendall in a major shake-up of electoral areas for the new 11 model super councils.
The ward simply called ‘The Glens’ would include Cushendall, Ballycastle, Waterfoot and Loughgiel.
Cllr McShane said: “I have to admit having Loughgiel in with Ballycastle and the Glens makes perfect sense. Many aspects of life in these areas are similar with Loughgiel having a rich sporting and cultural epicentre based around strong community and voluntary sectors that dovetailed well with the rest of the proposed DEA.
“Farming plays a major part in the economy right across the district and Loughgiel with its hurley making industry and recent major on-field successes is exposing itself to the tourism sector alongside the Glens and Ballycastle.”
